7year2 Index 2I’ll explain why

Most of the people I deal with have been struggling with anxiety disorders for many years and have usually exhausted themselves looking for a solution in every book, course, or treatment program out there. By the time they get to me, they are very skeptical (as is natural) and have little faith in ever getting rid of their condition.

But Why Do You Have Anxiety?

The burning question is why me? ‘Why do I seem to be the only person who feels this way?’

The answer, in all probability, is that you have ‘anxiety sensitivity’. What that means is that you are simply more likely to feel anxious in response to stress and unusual bodily sensations than the next person is.

A clear sign of anxiety sensitivity is if you interpret the bodily sensations associated with stress, as a sign of impending health problems. A pounding heart becomes a potential heart attack, a tight chest is a breathing problem, a racing mind turns into a fear of mental illness.

The average persons pays little attention to such sensations however the person with anxiety sensitivity reacts with fear and even panic!

The idea of ‘anxiety sensitivity’ was developed by Steven Reiss and Richard J. McNally and today, more than 1,100 published studies have validated this concept.

In the above illustration both people are experiencing a pounding heart and a dizzy sensation. Jane on the left has a high level of anxiety sensitivity and immediatly reacts with fear to the bodily sensations. The experience for her develops into a panic attack.

Mark on the right is experiencing the very same bodily sensations but becasue he has a low anxiety sensitivity, the experience does not develop into anxiety or a panic attack.

Only a small minority of people experience anxiety sensitivity and that is why you may have felt alone and misunderstood with this problem. The great news is that you can easily learn to reduce this sensitivity, which will in turn end the anxiety you experience.
